new yamaha - the klr killer or what the next klr should be
Fuel injected, good components. Put a 6 speed in it and you would
have a real winner.

I think the catalytic converter mufflers would have to "fall off"
somewhere in the woods.

I like it but my eyes were immediately drawn to the two exhaust pipes
in the front which dangle down right were my dented skid plate goes.
It would be cool if they just sold you the bike with two sets of
wheels.

With only about 3.5 gallons. It will have a hard time beating the KLR

Look at the Muz Panther Gino sales. Toby did a big review of it in the last
Dual Sport News.

Hmmm, as much as I'd love for a bike to out-KLR the KLR (even if it was a new version of the KLR), I don't think this is it. It's clearly a road motor put onto a heavier dual sport frame. Those exhaust pipes out front like that wouldn't last 20 minutes in most backwoods applications. the secondary front fender coming off of the fork protector doesn't look like it'd fit very big knobbies, either. This bike seems like it'd be an OK fire/gravel road bike at best. Time will tell i s'pose.

When you refer to "klr" you most likely mean klr650, right?
"..and less torque plodding around" also compares the low end torque to the
650, or?
Do you know since when they make the 400 with a similar setup? (if at all, I
have to look for an older used one to get it in the price range I have in
mind).

definintely a better bike off gravel than the KLR. I have a buddy
who recently bought one (used and very well set up) because he had
chopped off much of his hand in an accident with a table saw this
last year. The DRZ can be equiped with a revlock or other brand auto
clutch that he got with his. It is really cool, the bike can be
placed in gear at idle and it will not move, only when the throttle
is openned will it begin to move. I rode his DRZ this way several
times recently and I really was impressed (although I would not buy
the clutch setup-too wierd for me). Definitely more power and
snappier than the KLR, but a real plank of a seat, and less torque
for plodding around. I did feel that I could ride it up trails that
I would avoid on the KLR however. I may end up with one next year,
but the KLR will stay in the garage...
