klr 650 stator

I was wondering if anyone on the list has any connections to Hayes Diversified and has updated info on availability of diesel KLRs to the public. I was wondering when are they expected to be available? How long do they plan on making them? What if KHI stops producing gasser KLRs next year, how is Hayes going to deal with that scenario? What will be the cost of a diesel KLR? Personally Im fascinated by the diesel KLR and will likely try to get one as soon as it becomes available, hopefully the price will be under 8K. Anyone knows? First of all the Abrams uses a turbine so I dont see the connection there, and Hayes posted on their web site that they DO plan on making the KLR available to the public.

Don't many of you think a diesel in a 650cc package would be a slug? Diesels are fine in many industrial applications, but I can't see one in a bike. Has anyone talked to any military personnel who have actually riden one who also had experience on a decent gas motorcycle? Thad Carey A15 (w/Barbie complex)

The military KLR was featured on Mail Call a month or so ago and they showed the diesel model. One of the Marine riders commented on the bike and said they have had no problems with the new diesel engines and his impression was that it put the power to the ground better than the gasoline engines. This Marine was one of only two who have ridden a KLR from Kawait to Bagdad. When will this tour open up? --Jim A-15

The Abrams will run on diesel fuel, so that's a connection. The comment was based on the fact that cool military tech usually takes a long time to hit the civilian market. Karl A14
