At the last benefit ride that the dealership sponsored, I was the only Jap bike. I've taught almost 40 Rider's Edge classes and a boatload of MSF classes. People were talking to me prior to the ride. As the bikes left the parking lot, I had a clear space of a couple of hundred feet between me and the other bikes in the ride. Does make my pretty A9 stand out. Just so I fit in, I put a few extra spacers in my Supercrapp. It was loud as heck. I still couldn't hear my KLR over the 'rumble' of the open piped HDs. Lucky for me I have earplugs. PauL M. That I would like to see. I am always arguing with a friend that owns a Low Rider about the benefits of owning a KLR over a Hog or any other 500 lb plus machine. He claims any motorcycle will go where any KLR will go. People have ridden all over the world on all sorts of bikes according to him. They probably have. I try to tell him all bikes have limitations but a KLR is very versatile. Frustrated by his not listening, I then tell him to take one of his 500 to 600 to 700 lb sleds through 10 miles of of mud or deep gravel or deep sand and then ride a bike more suited for it (preferably a real dirt bike but a KLR will do) and then imagine doing that same ride for 400 miles. I just wish he would try and ride that Low Rider in mud with street tires ........... alone. Criswell Thomas J Komjathy wrote:

Having run across a Harley rider on Rte 24 (WY) just before it turns into Rte 34 (SD) I can vouch that a Harley (or at least the rider) does not fare well on poor roads. They had torn the pavement up to the dirt and it had rained the night before. For 10 miles, it was rutted mud. There was a sign on the Wyoming side warning motorcyclists to find another route, but I knew my KLR. I meandered my way through it and came across him about halfway along ... he was cursing and asked (wow, a Harley rider spoke to me!) how much further. There was no warning sign on the SD side. He had, of course, washed & shone his bike for his trip through Sturgis but any resemblance to a beautiful bike had passed and it had taken him a long time to lug himself and the bike through the mud to reach the midpoint. I laughed, told him another few miles, wished him well, spun around him and continued on my way, and my memory of his predicament keeps me smiling whenever I wave and get ignored :) Karma. Gotta love it. Cal.

Reading your posts reaffirms why I DON'T ride a Harley. The attitude of a lot of these posers is just sickening. Worse, is the attitudes of the wannabes and their rice burner/rice grinder remarks. I was at a party recently, and put a couple of these brand nazis in their place. Neither had a bike to ride..... As far as I'm concerned, most Harleys aren't fit to ride. Bar hopping isn't my idea of riding, and the big $$ choppers that you see are even worse in that regard. I prefer a bike that is comfortable and nimble with adequate power. Harley doesn't make one! The exploits of Harley riders were written up in their publication "The Enthusiast" back in the late 60s and at least until the mid 70s. I read stories of world travelers and those riding to/from Patagonia on Electra Glides and such. I'm sure the same was true of even earlier Harleys and Indians in the 30s through 50s. Keep in mind, these were motivated, enthusiastic riders, not today's posers. Take a Road King ANYWHERE a KLR would go? No flippin' way!! A beginner rider would take a KLR places where an expert Harley rider could only dream of going. I wouldn't even want to wrestle with the Big BMW GS, let alone something made for street only.
