elaboration on electrical problems

Post by Jason Marshburn » Sat Jun 14, 2003 9:14 am

Thanks for the rapid reply to my previous post! Here's what's going on with my bike: For about the last few months it has been hit and miss. Sometimes it will be fully operational, and then after a while, I loose my headlight. The fuses are ok, so I estimate there is an intermittent short somewhere under the fuel tank or behind the fairing. I have ridden the bike many times (over 3,000 miles since January), so I'm not concerned about carb gumming or similar issues. The last time I tried to start the bike, I heard something fry (kinda sounded like a quiet bottle rocket taking off). I checked the fuses again, and the voltage across the battery. Things are fine there. There has been some electrical work done in the past, including the previous owner installing grip warmers. He garaged the bike so he really didn't weather proof the connections. This may or may not have been a source of the problem, since he did do a decent job of setting them up, but now that I think of it, he didn't use a weather resistant switch. My feeling is this. By the time I get through running all the gremlins out of town, my time could have been used to install a new main harness. I drive truck long haul, and am gone most of the time, so my most valuable asset here is time. Hope that helps clarify! dualstar skidplate

Post by snodeb » Sat Jun 14, 2003 12:00 pm

Got the replacement brackets for my skidplate from Dualstar, two had cracked where the nut was welded to the bracket. They were great about replacing them at no charge. I posted a while back asking if anyone else had a problem with the brackets. I was just looking for info... didn't mean to infer that they made a crappy product, I'm really happy with everything I've purchased from them. Good to deal with a company that stands behind their products. Dave in Eugene
