Can anyone tell me where I saw a nice close up of the PVC tool holder mounted on the KLR? I checked the files and the one pictured there is not the photo I remembered. It seems to me I saw a nice close up shot somewhere with a write up. TIA, Jess Booth Odenton, MD

How long can the highway-peg-mounted storage pipe be without bashing it in a tipover? The DSN site mentioned 20" but I don't know if that's an overall dimension or just the pipe itself. Has anyone explored the outer limits of pipe length?

Just a little quick mental trig and the following should help you out: distance from ground to pipe with bike upright: A Distance from ground to widest point on bike (ex. vertical height of handle bars): B Distance from bike centerline to widest point on bike (ex. half bar width): C Half length of pvc pipe: D If A*C/B>D you're good. -Paul PS: If your bike tips and you smash something to pieces, it's not my fault

Mine's just short of 14" attached to Tim's highway pegs. Only problem is the gravel blast is gradually wearing the PVC. Might need a sleeve of some sort eventually. Todd A9 A3

Sleeve with Duct tape. Twill work for many months and the price is right.

I got a new (real) skid plate and today bought some 3" PVC to fashion a tool storage tube. Was curious how long might be too long? I'm thinking I can use it for foot rest as well so I'm thinking making it about as wide as the foot pegs stick out. I bought 5' of pipe so I could probably make 2 - one long for street and a shorter one I could throw on if I know I'm going out into the woods. Saturday I'm taking the MSF ERC and then I'm going to dig into my doohickey and valves. Was going to do it earlier but didn't want to screw up something and miss the class! jim

I think it's all about diversity. It has to fit your tire tools, calapsable fishin poles, and still has to protect your radiator shrouds and still be functional as highway foot bars. You have to be able to do a deep single track without dragging to a stop. I vote 24 inches, but what do I know. You know what they say about opinions?!
