fairing? on a dirt bike?

A couple of weeks ago I spent a Sunday afternoon attempting to replace my stock fairing with a KLR 250 headlight shroud. I ran into too many problems that needed to be solved before I could make it work. It is now a winter time project awaiting the onset of snow. Anybody else suceed in losing the fairing?
