Fellow KLRists,
I've been signed off of the list for a while, but have come to realized I
need to be on this list for my sanity if nothing else.
Here's my problem:
On my way to see the races at Road America last weekend my KLR quit running!
Actually, It will sit an idle, but if I touch the throttle it dies. If I
choke it it will idle up to 3000 rpm, but if I touch the throttle while on
choke it still dies. I'm stumped, I disassembled the carb completely 4 times
looking for gunk in any orifice, but nothing everything looks spot on. Any
ideas, I could really use some advise.
On the brighter side, my wife wasn't doing anything important(besides work)
so she picked the bike and I up and I jumped on the Hawk GT and still made it
to Road America. Just one bit of advise, Hawk's make for crappy 350 mile a
day tourers, my rear still hurts.
Thanks,
Darrick

a funny thing happened on the way to road america-help!
I'd be thinking restricted air intake, torn carby slide diaphragm or valve
clearance problems. Will it rev without the air cleaner on? Check the
valve sprocket alignment to see that you haven't skipped a tooth.

~snip~ Hey Darrick, did you just fill your gas tank about 3 or 4 miles before this happened? I know this sounds wacky, but are you sure you didn't fill up with diesel? I have seen this happen once and heard of it happening twice, and what you have describes are the _exact_ same symptoms that happen to a diesel filled KLR. Failing that, I would suggest starting the bike and letting it idle while removing the fuel line from the petcock and seeing if you have good fuel folw out of the tank. more coolant info...
Not as exciting as an oil-level thread, but here is a little more info on
coolants. We've discussed coolants in the past but we've never reached a
consensus...

The Zerex Racing coolant sounds like just the ticket for the summer
months.
