motorcycle magazines!

Post by kfali » Thu May 16, 2002 9:49 am

Hi all. I am sure that the help and information which one gets on this forum is unparalleled to any magazine or single source what so ever. I am reading all the old posts as well and learning at a light speed about issues and concerns and the more i read the more i feel better about my choice of a KLR. I did fell in love with the BMW GS 650 but after looking at it every day for a week in the street and then talking to the owner, i feel i have a better machine. Now given the confusion of marketing, I would like to ask for recomendation on motorcycle magazines to start a few subscriptions. So please suggest some bathroom reading material. ;) kfali.

I usually read "Fast bikes" for the excellent but somewhat irreverant road bike coverage (occasionally do super moto stuff and dual sports) http://www.themagazineman.co.uk/Fast%20Bikes.htm example http://www.craigjones.com/images/coverjpegs/Fast%20Bikes.jpg and I used to subscribe to the excellent "Trail bike Magazine" but I havent seen it for a while. http://www.themagazineman.co.uk/Trail%20Bike.htm If you subscribe to british motorcycle magazines the best place to read them is the bathroom (naked women, law breaking, silly stunts etc) :-) I find most US magazines to be a bit dull in comparison but a lot more adult. I havent seen one that really caters for DSN riders that appears on news stands. I buy them on an adhoc basis. The only subscription I haven't cancelled is Motorcycle Consumer News. No advertising; honest product reviews; excellent riding and safety tips. Bill A15

SNIP I too, subscirbed to Fast Bikes, until I realized $96 a year is a twelve pack and small pizza every month. "Hot Chicks in Iridium Knicks" was the first issue I saw, then I subscribed. Currently I recieve : Rider

Ditto that on both MCN and Monkey Butt. I also recommend Rick Sieman's monthly columns on Off-road.com. For a long time, I considered Iron Horse the best MC magazine, even though I am not into choppers, and not interested in Harleys. It has lost some of its edge since editorship moved from New York to Detroit, but it still features non-Harley choppers, and every once in a while does something really cool, like a feature on the Elephant Ride, or on lesbian bikers (well, that last one was quite a few years ago, I guess). Unlike the Brits, they take themselves too seriously, but at least they have attitude.
