How much do you need? I got by with the KLR's output for 7 years and never had a battery die on me and I ran electric gloves, liner and high output bulb.

EFI takes next to nothing in electrical power, its ABS brakes suck the juice out of the system. Extra lights? On a DL1000? Why? Make fun of its looks, but the DL has twin 55/60w bulbs with 6+" reflectors. There is no substitute for reflector size when it comes to lights, so despite the seemingly low wattage, they put out all the light I could ever need but I guess you could pop in some 80/100 and have even more.

Before I got the V-strom, I was actually looking at a used BMW R1150R - the best BMW in the lineup IMHO. Anyway, I went to the parts counter to see what BMW made in the way windshields for it. The latest bulletin listed 3 that were still under development. Hmmm... guess if BMW were serious about building a Roadster, they would have had those wind screens done alread. After all, it's been out for almost a year now. Gino

I took a close look at the SV before buying the big Bandit though. The one (only) problem I had with the SV was for two up stuff. The pillion on the SV makes the passenger feel like she's sitting two feet higher than you are, kindof unnerving for em. As ergos go, the faired SV looks cooler...but is not as comfy for tallish riders as the standard unfaired version is. The faired SV's pegs are raised a wee bit, & I believe the bars are a bit lower too. There are Loads of aftermarket fairings available for the standard SV though..at least 20. As ergos on the Bandit 600S go, I believe they're exactly that of the 1200S. (real comfy) It's really hard to tell them apart except for that the 600 comes in black, & there's less engine mass. As engine goes, I've not ridden a 600S. Opinions of it vary from "buzzy" to "perfect" -Scott A14 "thunderdog" Sorrento, Fl

What he said. I've had my Strom for a couple of weeks and an amazing thing about it is how comfortable, easy and user-friendly it is -- yet it's also nimble, light and very quick when you want it to be. The wide handlebars and upright position see to that make it very easy to ride. Remember, at 456 lbs dry, it's lighter than just about everything else in its class. The brakes and tranny are very good and the engine is great. Check out the group, if you want: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/vstrom/ . The only caveat I might add is that some people might physically fit better on an SV650S than a DL1000. The only way to tell that is to go sit on both at the dealer, and see which one feels better to you.

The B6 is, IMHO, the most attractive-looking "standard" on the market right now. What stops me from wanting one is its reputation for having a weak low-end and midrange. If you like the idea of winding it out like a sportbike, it might be just the ticket. Otherwise, take a gander at the Kawi ZR-7S. RM

The "S" model SV650 has clip-on bars and rearset pegs. That, in my mind, makes it encroach into sportbike territory. What kind of ergos are you after?

The SV has more of a real-world power delivery, but it is also a smaller bike. I don't know how the passenger accomodations are, but I would imagine that the B6 might have a little more room. More room for luggage, too. RM

That's a good point. Thanks for mentioning it. -Lujo
