helmets...whats the difference?

Post by praxis71220 » Sat Apr 27, 2002 2:28 pm

anyone know how protective "thermoplastic resin shell" vs. "polycarbonate shell" is. Perhaps these are fancy words for plastic? I know kevlar is the best but are these others adequate?

If the helmet complies with the relevent standards then don't worry too much about it. Any helmet maker will recommend that the helmet is replaced or at least inspected by the maker if the helmet has been in an accident (and I don't mean a cat piss in it, like happened to a friend of mine), no matter how expensive it is/was. I'll agree that the KLR stops just fine on the street, for a dirtbike. I can lock up my knobbies on dry pavement. But the braking sucks for a 2002-vintage streetbike. My '78 SR500, with stock brake setup, stops better. But since Kawasaki left the bike with streetbike suspension, and a few other "omissions" that are only appropriate for a streetbike (laughable stock bash plate, no radiator protection, etc) why not fit streetbike brakes? Kawi uses twin-piston single-sided calipers to the KLX, the EX250, some of the cruisers etc. It's not like they have to design a new caliper. Devon A15 Steve Pye wrote:
