nklr f650cs ridden first by big red

I stopped by the BMW shop on the way home tonight, on my black R1100RS (a gorgeous bike in its own right, if I don't say so myself) to invite Melinda ("Big Red") over for some barbecued tri-tip roast. She had other plans, but mentioned to me that she'd taken the F650CS out for a demo ride today. She described it as an awesome bike. We both admired the final drive once more, it is truly a fine piece. She said it's quick, and very nimble, with way more torque available than she gets out of her XR650L. Close to 50 HP. She said it's a real pleasure to ride (she also rides her Bandit 1200 most of the time). She really liked it. She has put about 65,000 on her XR650L, about 45,000 on her Bandit, and she had a XT500 prior, which went about 85,000 miles underneath her ample rear, so she knows something about motorcycles and has ridden more miles than many. Before that she had a BSA. I took a good long look at it to try to find out where it was ugly, but was unable to come up with any particular ugly piece. I was not real fond of the heavy-duty plastic rack and tank "handles", but they are acceptable. No uglier than a KLR fairing, in fact, a lot more appealing than that particular part. Remember, as a KLR owner, we are being hypocritical calling any bike ugly, so I suspect the proof is in the riding. This was the very first instance I had heard of, magazines included, of anyone riding this new model. When I parked the BMW in my yard, I took a good long look at my KLR's bodywork, or what passes for bodywork. "Less-than-handsome" came to mind, as did "economically-challenged". "Flimsy" also came up. Still quite useful, however. I still love the old porker. It still runs perfectly after 25,000 hard miles, and many road trips.

As ugly as the 650CS ride seems from first impressions (especially that awful orange color scheme), I'll bet it'll be a real hit with the ladies. and if it's already got the 'Big Red' stamp of approval, watch out... The styling is similar to the BMW 'cruisers', which I either like or not, depending on my mood, my position relative to the bike, and the bike in question. Similar to my klr: like many women, she's most beautiful from behind. But I still love her, too much maybe. pb2q D15

You got it, my girlfriend really likes the CS...mostly due to the seat height and color. I'm trying to sway her over to the GS model but it will take some work. At least she loves the 82 Magna we bought this winter...we should get in a lot of miles in this summer going to rallies and down to Oregon. PB in cold COLD COOOOLD Calgary.

Slightly used, not perfect some small scuffs from a flapping cover (I think). I'm 6' and look over this 11+ shield. I've decided I prefer smaller stock screen. Will sell for $30 and shipping. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Yahoo! Movies - coverage of the 74th Academy Awards http://movies.yahoo.com/
