Getting ready to wash my KLR650 for first time. Pretty dirty. I
would like to get her looking like new again. What kind of
wash/polish solutions are safe on the engine? I think a standard
degeaser would be to harsh. What is everyone else using???? Also
seeking good washing techniques and recommendations. I have been
told that a bristle paint brush helps on the engine cracks and
crevices. Thanks for your input!

Wash?
You're supposed to wash a DP bike?
When did this start? Nobody told me!
Hope I haven't permanently damaged the KLX!!!

I use Hondabrite degreaser on my KLR, wash it with a bucket and sponge , garden hose (low pressure), dry it with my air blow gun, then give the appropriate parts a hosing down with WD 40. Not gonna win any Concours D'Elegance, but looks sharp enough for me. Sparklin' Stu> Getting ready to wash my KLR650 for first time. Pretty dirty. I > would like to get her looking like new again. I don't think the KLR likes to be washed. The dirt and grime acts
kinda like locktite on the exposed threads. This helps to keep vital
fasteners from getting lost.

I think people that take there KLR to the high presure washers and the
ones that ride through 6 ft and over rivers are the ones that have the swing
arm bearings needind a little extra grease?? Could you guys be washing the
grease out??
I have about 13,000 miles on mine and a trip planed for Mexico soon, So i
will be checking my bearings real soon......

I leave it out in the weather and let the rain do its job,but then
again it does not rain much in New Mexico.

You're assuming the factory installed grease there in the first place.
No, I'm not trying to be funny. My uni-trak bearings were lubed with
something between vasaline and sewing machine oil.
I clean the bike after I've been offroading, it's an easy way to spot
anything loose or broken. If I haven't been trail riding I don't bother.
