"ONLY" twice ?? ;-) Not my first bike, but its been almost 15 year since I had my last bike which was a KZ400 ( I kinda miss that little bike ), it was a short distance communter for me, got it when I was stationed in Florida, used to ride A1A alot, bud used to roll up and call it a rice burner sitting on his soft tail (with factory mufflers including the baffles, man that bike sounded sweet from the factory cant see why anybody would modify that exhaust) Anyway.. what was I saying... Ohya the KLR was perhaps the perfect bike for me, since I grew up riding trail, trial and MX a little. I like the idea of having power on-tap, but have yet to really get it off road (my idea of off-road, is no trails or jeep roads) more than a short excursion down the lake / river outlet shore line, and the sand it felt pretty wish washy, but again I was still in that ;-) (its a guy thing) Duden A15 Pilot

The KLR650 is my first motorcycle in 25 years. I had one when I was a bit older than the gentleman who started this thread, but nothing in the interval. I picked the KLR650 because of the loyal following and available quality aftermarket parts. No machine I've ever had for transportation didn't need a few fixes and changes to make it run better or just to suit me, so hat was important. That it is a classic machiine with a long production run mattered as well, and also that is simple and can be worked on by semi-skilled guys like me (with the help of the guys on this board, from Australia to Texas. It's fun to ride, fast enough, and goes about anywhere. Yeah, I've fallen over a time or two, but you can fix it and the plastic doesn't look too bad a little scared. I recommend it. Jim Hall
