I always wanted to take a CR 500 and make it street legal or almost, Put 17
inch r compound street tires and maybe a little engine work port and polish
and a bigger and better carb and a higher Flo pipe, Try to keep the HP up and
the weight down.

A magazine or at least a magazine featured exactly this about 8 years ago. It was a then-new CR500 that was given only street tires and different gearing. It literally tore apart sport bikes and it's biggest problem was keeping the nose down. In that same article they tested several dirt bikes (on knobbies) at a drag strip against street bikes. The results were somewhat surprising to the street bike crowd. They lost to 50 across the board to the dirt bikes! After that the street gearing/set-up took over and they smoked the dirtbikes.> the weight down. > YThis would be a real fun bike around town...............................

Check out Motomorphic.com they've got a street legal CR500 for sale, looks
scary and I'd be in jail for sure with it.

Except for the fact you have no range, have to take 2smoke oil every where you go, need a kick stand , must constantly screw with the jetting , if you stall at a light kick kick kick, and on and on and on I have a friend who is currently using his kx500 as a road mount and he calls me bitching about jetting woes quite frequently. On the same subject - Gas Gas is selling a 250 2 stroke dual purpose motorcycle ( yes street legal) that weighs 198 lbs and sells for $4600 u.s. dollars. This might be the one !
