Congrats on the big BMW road bike, I love mine. Since I bought mine I
have ridden the KLR 3 times for a total of 20 miles, put 4k on the
beamer in 7 weeks and haven't even gone anywhere yet. Debating
selling the KLR and all the accessories then maybe buying a 250 or
something to really go play in the woods.

Hmmmm, I did just the opposite. Bought the big GS -
loved riding it on "most" roads - but felt it was just
too much bike for some of the more serious forest
roads. Went looking for either a DR or a KLR for
"two-up" and after sitting on a DR, decided the KLR
was what we wanted. About the same seat height, but a
lot less mass and MUCH better gearing on the KLR. If
I can find a good deal on the rear-gear set out of a
1100GS, I'll pop it into the 1150 which drops the
gearing about 8%. In the meantime, I think the bikes
compliment each other quite well.

My feelings exactly! I have a '01 1150 GS and a "00 KLR. They both fit a nitch and I would feel incomplete without both!
