punky injured at county fair

Post by rob atomic » Wed Aug 08, 2001 4:11 pm

NEWS ITEM Puyallup, WA - (API) Tuesday, a pooch by the name of Punky was injured when he commandeered his owners' motorcycle and unsuccessfully attempted to jump a row of junk cars. The cars were setup for a stunt at the Puyallup Fairgrounds, and were intended to be used by local daredevil Jim Hyman, otherwise known as "The Professor". Hyman, a veteran thrill seeker known to many on the famed KLR650 list, was to have jumped a record 32 automobiles in an exhibition that night. "I just left him alone for a second," says owner Lew Waterman, "I just never suspected that he would try something like this." Waterman continued, adding that though he loved his dog very much, he just "couldn't seem to stay out of trouble." In his attempt, Punky fell short of the 32 car mark, landing somewhere around car number 27 and cartwheeling out of control into a fuel truck, which exploded. He is expected to be released from a local hospital tomorrow after being treated for minor cuts and abrasions. Punky has been characterized by many as 'reckless' and 'irresponsible', often picking fights with much larger dogs, skydiving over missile test ranges, and consuming obscene amounts of tequila. It is not known at this time whether or not Punky was under the influence of alcohol prior to attempting the stunt. hehe -rob atomic seattle hard trance/goa live pa http://www.evergo.net/~atomic

Hi Rob: I choose not to tempt fate with these kinds of stories of Punky's infalibility. His tragedies have been unfortunate -- a hairs breadth away from the long permanent sleep. If I were a religious person, I would say his survival is miraculous. I'm very lucky to still have him as my riding buddy. I don't know what else Murphy may have up his sleeve or how much more the little bugger, Punky, can take. Right now, we're both raring to go again. Later. Lew

Motoport Kevlar riding suit: two piece, enduro style, full body armour, vented jacket, breathable fabric with full Gore-Tex liner suit. Makes the others look and feel wimpy, but it's comfortable and easy to don/doff. Large, fits 6', 40 or 42" chest. $250 OBO
