Here is an example of what the reflective tape looks like on our helmets. The pics are taken in the living room with the camera at the same position as the light source. I may add some night shots from headlight illumination if the weather gets better. These things shine really bright under those conditions. Denise did a great job applying the tape, and getting me motivated to do my helmet. We co-designed the graphics on my Shoei, and she applied the tape. Rick, Swweeeeeeeeet job on the helmets - that's given me a bunch of ideas. I'm guessing you used the 3M scotchlite? I had a strip of it on the back of my white dirt helmet, you could hardly see it during the day, but at night it sticks out like dog's balls, reflecting any bit of stray light. I had a small piece on the rear of my panniers, and that was as bright or brighter than my tail light when hit with a headlight. Lets cages know how wide you actually are. The stuff is super cheap too, I grabbed mine from a sign design place. Nice job! Rich

Your helmets look great, but I don't think spraying anything over tape is a good idea. It's doubful that it will do anything but make a mess if and wehn the tape peels off. -- bierdo Rick McNelly wrote:

Thanks Rich! We ordered the tape from: http://www.identi-tape.com/safety.htm They have all kinds of tape, including some glow in the dark tape that I'm planning to use around the ignition switch. We have also used some SOLAS tape for our jackets and soft luggage that is incredible stuff: http://www.landfallnavigation.com/ssrt1.html It works on anything. I use 3M reflective tape on my US NAVY flight helmet and I strongly urge you not to put anything over reflective tape as this may/will degrade the reflective properties.
