I realize there will never be a consensus on this topic (or most others for that matter), but the diverse points of view are always interesting and extremely educational. So I'll ask a very loaded question... What's the current wisdom on chain lube products/procedures? I'm not inclined to do a Scott Oiler or Loobman system at this time. All chain mfrs. recommend the same thing: 90wt gear oil API GL-5. My personal experience is that they're right, but you have to decide if you can deal with the mess. Sprays and mechanical/automated oilers are more convenient, but nothing else produces the miles that gear oil does. Period. Tom Bowman Atlanta A14 "Stella"

Jess, I prop up the bike with a jack so the rear tire turns freely. I then take an oil can and run a bead of 90w on the right side orings then the left side orings. Thats it. After a while you get the hang of it and don't over lube it. Brad --- Jesbo@... wrote:

Jess, Some of the guys on this list use WD40 with good results. I just like to stick to what the manual recommends. Plus 90w is inexpensive or you can spring for synthetic 90w if you are so inclined. Brad --- Jesbo@... wrote:

Jess, I use regular oil in my cars/KLR too. I change the oil frequently in my bike so I don't think synthetic would help me much. I sold my last car with 250k on the odometer. I used regular oil it's whole life and when I sold it it was burning less than 1 quart per 3000 miles. Brad --- Jesbo@... wrote:
