trouble starting my 97 klr650 (california model)

Hello to All, Even after driving 2 miles to the gas station i have trouble getting my bike started. i would put on the choke and sometimes it would backfire and then eventually start. when the engine is cold i do not have a problem. Any sugesstions? thanks, Pierre
