Datsun 240 cast iron drums fit. Just need the TC hole pattern drilled into them. They don't look original in anyway but not overly out of place either. They compliment the Datsun steering box very nicely. David Edgar, TC 5108 El Cajon, California

I believe that NTG Services in the UK offers cast iron drums for TCs. Since they cost nearly as much as the Alfins, I opted to go with the Alfins, and have been very pleased with them. Mike Goodman's MG service in Van Nuys, California has a TC brake drum grinder set up. Not all TC drums are worth saving though. Depends how bad they are. I have a set of brake drums one of which measures 9.065 in. What is the limit 
 before I should consider replacing them? Thanks Bob TC6198

When changing from stock drums to Alfins, are there adjustments that need to be made? Such as brake linings, etc.? Mike Keeffe

Hi Mike, The only change that may be required is to change to a soft, non-metallic lining. Many TCs were fitted with metal impregnated linings over the years and these can score the cast iron liner of the alfin drum. Otherwise, a straight bolt-on installation. Yes, you should have "soft" linings installed on your shoes. Most suppliers offer a wonderful set of linings, using modern composite materials, suitable for most power barake assisted operations. However, since most TC's are not equipped with this feature, the linings tend to glaze. For best braking, with either the Cast iron liner aluminum drums, or the original stamped steel drums, a "soft" lining should be used. You might have to renew the linings after 20,000 miles, but that beats having to sand the linings to remove the glaze every 2,000 - 3,000 miles. John Seim Irvine, CA

Greetings to all, I am looking at having made/machined some cast iron brake drums to duplicate the steel originals. However my set are worn out and I have been unable to find the correct measurement for the internal diameter of the drum. Does anyone know this vital size? BTW if anyone is interested I am willing to look at additional sets for resale, I would expect a price of approx 110.00 per drum, contact me off list if this grabs your attention. Steve TC4219
