kick start pieces

Post by Norm Keller » Fri Nov 11, 2016 2:28 pm

Someone on another group was wanting to convert to a kick start and since I have one, or maybe two sets of the parts, I started digging through boxes. Nowhere can I find my notes on exactly which parts are needed. Has anyone a list so that I will immediately find mine? As recall, side cover for later Gen2 only. early 650 or 600 clutch basket
primary drive gear
kick start shaft
kick start spring kick start lever etc.

Norm, This link might be the easiest for seeing what is needed to add a kickstarter. It is from a 1987 bike as an optional kit. I think on post 1996 bikes the earlier clutch basket is required as it has the gear on the back. I'll guess a Gen II KLR650 doesn't have the hole for the kickstarter in the right cover but that is just a guess. http://www.ronayers.com/oemparts/a/kaw/50a63c99f870022c14fc4e6a/optional- parts-kickstarter Looks like there might be 9 of 27 different parts no longer available. I think if it has a price the part is still available with the exception of the entire kit. I've been told the dealer will try to order the entire kit but later come back with the no longer available comment. I've added 2 each for the parts that are not a single item. 1987 Kawasaki KLR650 (KL650-A1) 1987 Kawasaki KLR650 (KL650-A1) Optional Parts (Kickstarter) Change Assembly Optional Parts (Kickstarter) 13061 BOSS,KICK PEDAL 13061-1106 13064 LEVER-ASSY-KICK,PEDAL 13064-1133 13066 SHAFT-KICK 13066-1058 13070 GUIDE,KICK SPRING 13070-1106 13078 RATCHET 13078-1051 13206 GUIDE-KICK 13206-1051 27012 HOOK 27012-1383 32085 STOPPER,KICKSTARTER 13072-014 $7.50 $5.25 59051 GEAR-SPUR,KICK 59051-1142 92001 BOLT,8X28 92001-1042 $5.07 $3.19 92022 WASHER,15.2X20X1 92022-1019 $3.56 $2.24 92022A WASHER,25.3X30X0.5 92022-159 $7.02 $4.42 2 each 92022B WASHER,20.5X25.5X0.5 92022-252 $4.69 $2.95 92033 RING-SNAP,24MM 92033-026 $7.27 $4.58 2 each 92033A RING-SNAP,10MM 92033-1166 $3.25 $1.82 92037 CLAMP 92037-1938 92049 SEAL-OIL,SC22325 92049-1048 $7.27 $4.58 92081 SPRING,KICK PEDAL 92081-020 $3.60 $2.02 92081A SPRING 92081-097 $8.10 $5.67 92081B SPRING,KICKSTARTER 92082-003 $21.48 92144 SPRING,REAR BRAKE SWITCH 92144-1143 $6.73 $4.24 99995 KIT.,KICKSTARTER 99995-1007 $189.95 112 BOLT-UPSET 112G0618 112BA0618 $0.95 2 each 290 SCREW-SET-SOCKET,8X8 290Q0808 $3.65 $2.04 410 WASHER-PLAIN-SMALL,4MM 410B0400 410AA0400 $0.95 550 PIN-COTTER,2.0X15 550D2015 550AA2015 $0.95 600 BALL-STEEL,1/4" 600A0800 $0.95 670 O RING,15MM 670B2015 $0.95 2 each END OF LIST Best, Jeff Saline The Beautiful Black Hills of South Dakota 75 R90/6, 03 KLR650 . . . . . . . . In the FWIW department . . . I remember when I had a 1972 {?} Triumph B50 - a 500cc Single. It was a 'manual' start. The thing that brought a big smile to me was when these big, burly guys would want to ride it, and tried to Kick Start it . . . with no luck. Then I would call over my 135lb wife and have her do it with ONE kick !! She knew the 'timing' and how to use the COMPRESSION RELEASE Lever to get it 'just over' TDC before the 'kick'. Now maybe I'm just showing my age, and the 'new' bikes do it automatically, but I didn't see any reference to the lever & cable on the 'List'. Regards & Thanks, Ron Magen 2003 KLR 1977 Triumph T140V Bonneville {now w/'Bullet' Sidecar 3c.
