gen ii klr issues -- deep hole

Post by Jeff Saline » Sun Dec 30, 2012 10:38 pm

Listers, I think the other day someone was asking about potential issues on a 2009 KLR. I responded but just remembered one more. It's called the deep hole and is one of the starter gear shaft holes in the left side cover bored too deep. If the bike (I think maybe 2008-2009) has this problem the shaft can slip into the cover and the engine side of the shaft will not be supported. This is easily fixed by putting a ball bearing into the hole to keep the shaft from slipping into the hole. I also recall hearing a few people have put a short piece of hose into the hole. Serves the same function as the ball bearing. Maybe someone that has actually seen this issue can talk a bit more about it. Oil. Most likely Rotella 15/40. Secondary sales would be (sic) WD-40 chain lube. cough. revmaaatin.
