I was told that, I should start thinking of my future, ..."you will not be able to ride all your life." And I realized how right they are, at 53 & 3/4, a time is coming when My Knee etc. are going to be an "ISSUE". SO..............anyone ever seen a KLR650 Trike?? I am growing-up too and looking forward to casting off the work-a-day life and ride more, a lot more. Most of the riding will be roads vs trails and i am considering what sort of machine i need. The KLR sends a viscous dither through my hands to my wrists, so i am considering what i should now ride. I've looked at a variety of bikes and will appreciate suggestions from you kind folks. Briefly; I am 6'2", 225 with only a touch of arthritis on my left side. I plan to take long trips, think east coast to west coast with a few days of 10 hours in the saddle. Your suggestions for my next bike is greatly appreciated.

I went from a KLR to a Super Tenere in September and agree. The ergos are close enough. You could buy two new KLRs for the price of one XTZ12, though. And the Yamaha is strictly an unpaved road bike for the average rider. It's just too dang heavy to take off-off road unless you are brave and go with friends to help pick up the beastie if you fall. That said, on the + side are: Fuel injection, shaft drive, adjustable seat height, two engine maps to chose from, ABS, shaft drive, three levels of traction control, nearly 100 rwhp and it still has a 6 gallon tank. Did I mention it's got shaft drive? -eddie

I have ridden a rented 1200 BMW, GS I think, in the Alps on some long days, but I like the KLR just as much. The BMW is WAY faster though. WAY faster. The only downside to the KLR is that it feels "small" on the freeway. I have a Sargeant seat, which is really nice. Robert Wichert P.Eng.
