overheating in mexico

You DOG! I'm still on the side of "make sure the fan is running the right direction". But what the heck, you are in a good situation, except for coming home... Robert Wichert P.Eng. LEED AP BD&C +1 916 966 9060 FAX +1 916 966 9068 ===============================================

So far I ve been able to ride it around the city without overheating, though I do have to turn it off at lights and carry a camelbak to spray the rad should I need to cool it down. The pipes are slightly bent at the middle of the rad but I don t think that should obstruct the flow... > > Will look into the water pump, but if the rad is heating up that should mean that it s flowing and thus I don t need to take it apart, or perhaps I am missing something. > > Off to whisk one of the lovely local girls to Guanajato, wish me luck the bike doesnt melt down on me. Are you sure the waterpump is pumping? It almost sounds like the water/antifreeze isn't circulating. That might be a stuck closed thermostat, or the pump. As to the fan, you might be surprised how much trimming the blades, even just a little bit, might affect how much air it moves. That siad, I still think you aren't flowing coolant. Any crushed or badly kinked pipes or tubes from your, uh, incidents? > > Tp > Knoxville TN > > > > > > > From: Blake El Explorador > To: dsn_klr650@yahoogroups.com > Sent: Tuesday, November 6, 2012 12:27 PM > Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Overheating in Mexico > > > > > > > > Hey everyone, here reading through all the overheating related issues on sixfifty.net, thought maybe someone here may help me pinpoint what I m looking for: > > 02 KLR overheating after a couple of crashes and getting hit by a truck (But I m okay! 6 lives left! > > Fan works, had to cut it down a bit so it doesn t rub on the tweaked mount . Rad has lost maybe five percent surface area due to irreparably twisted fins. All in all, the bike should in my uninformed opinion run only nominally hotter than usual, but I have to stop the bike when idling at the moment or it will just rise in temp steadily until I either overheat or hit a good stretch of road to get up to speed and cool it down. > > Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated. I bought my girlfriend a luggage rack for her DR650 from TCI Products. She went to pick it up on her bike. Package was kind of big and awkward to carry so they mounted her rack for her. Very kind thing to do. As they worked on it, they noticed her clutch cable was badly worn and had only a few strands left. Tom Miller offered to remove his clutch cable from his DR in the showroom and install it for her so she could get home safely. All he asked was for us to buy him a clutch cable later. Thanks Tom and Turbo City. I am impressed !! PS They sell cool stuff for KLR's, too Chris Kelly [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
