t-vent why a t?

Post by mark ward » Sun Nov 04, 2012 1:38 pm

Old new thread. Why a T-vent, instead of just the long one the goes under the seat, out the back, ETC.? [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

<><><><><><> <><><><><><> For folks not familiar with the T-Mod... It's for the carb vent line. That is a drain and a vent. If the hose goes up and fluid gets into it the vent action is stopped. Then the engine is stopped too. The T allows a drain and a vent if you're in deep water and have covered the lower vent/drain. On my bikes, I have a one-way floating check valve on the bottom vent. This is good for deep water crossings. The other end of my T goes up the frame backbone tube, all the way to the steering stem. I ziptied mesh over the end to prevent bugs from making a cocoon in the tube. Mark

Redundancy thats why.. :-) Gives the bugs two places to pack larve into.. :-) Actually the lower one will be blocked by water in a deep water incursion, the other end up under the seat stands a better chance of allowing the carb to vent. Can also happen in heavy rain on the road. Dooden A15 Green Ape
