new tires? & mold release????

Post by mark ward » Thu Oct 18, 2012 6:20 pm

I heard the sales-man at BMW say, They no longer use a mold release agent on tires, therefore, you do not have to be carefull the first 100 +- miles. (& wet roads) Yet just last yr. I was warned about it. Add opinions here, ......................... [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

Is this the same guy that gave you the wonderful chain advice? :-/ You can call it what you want but all the tires I sell here come with a shiny slick finish. They don t grip well until they look dull gray. Anytime you make a change to your bike you should take it easy for a time to be sure of any handling differences. New tires especially should be watched for about 100 miles or until they have that gray look. We have a Firestone/Bridgestone plant in the city here. I have friends who work there and they assure me that while they do not make motorcycle tires, they do use a release agent on the tires they make. Did this BMW person also sell insurance? ;-) Tam From: mark ward Sent: Thursday, October 18, 2012 5:20 PM To: List KLR Cc: glds@... Subject: [DSN_KLR650] New Tires? & mold release???? Every tire I've put on has mold release on them. Heck, you and see it on any brand new tire. I'll keep on gently scrubbing in mine so I don't end up on my hiny as I've almost done before.

I talked to Continental, The rumor to not worry started when they stopped using silicone as a release agent. BUT THEY DO STILL, use a release agent. And they also suggest being carefull,.. even on dry pavement, untill the tire is broken in.

new tires? & mold release????

I think I would be willing to listen to Fred from Arrowhead on this one. Every part he has sold me for my KLR has worked out just fine with his instructions and directions. Even with some dingus phone calls from me on the dohhickey kit. Yes doh'hickey. I had a hard time with it.... then it clicked. ________________________________ From: "wwotmike@..." To Fred's point, always, always, always scrub the tires for 50-100 miles before mote aggressive driving. :-) Sent from my HTC smartphone on the Now Network from Sprint! ----- Reply message ----- From: "Fred Hink" To: "List KLR" , "mark ward" Cc: Subject: [DSN_KLR650] New Tires? & mold release????
