cam chain tension

Post by dooden » Wed Jul 25, 2012 7:01 pm

My 2001 KLR had an issue with the petcock and when engine was running it squirted fuel out the corner of the petcock right onto the starter. Rebuild kit that the closed up now local shop had covered in dust fixed that problem. Nowadays somebody is making kit that makes it a normal on/off/res petcock. No vacuum needed. Dooden A15 Green Ape

Replacing the diaphragm is the simplest fix there is. (Converting to gravity is pretty simple, but a straight parts swap is easier still.) My vacuum petcock was trouble free for close to 50,000 miles. The only reason I converted was because i had Jeff Saline's kit on hand, and would have had to wait for the stock parts. There's nothing wrong with converting, but I'd be hard put to call the stock system troublesome or unreliable. > > > [Non-text portions of this message have been removed] >

I accidentally won a Vance & Hines exhaust on ebay and then it somehow ended up installed on my KLR. Worse yet, it has actually given the bike more grunt off the bottom and in the mid range. I've always been a proponent of stock exhausts, but I don't think I can give up the new found ability to steer with the rear wheel. Fortunately it came with the quiet insert (94db) and new packing. I've repacked it already and it made a huge difference in sound output. Unfortunately the spark arrestor that came with it is beyond its serviceable life, so I'll need to address that issue. It is louder than stock, but only when I lose control of the right wrist. I am now going to have to practice wrist control therapy to prevent myself from pissing of the local moose and bear populations. What have I done? da Vermonster
