picked up some brand new oem stock dunlops for $60

Stupid question of the day. I want to mount a tire that is rated as "tubless" on my stock KLR rims. I will obviously still use a tube and rim strip....right? BTW, I am going to try the Pirreli Scorpion Trail tires. Any experience?

I heard of that being done in the past, How well it turned out? Dunno! I think what was happening was silicone sealing all the nipples then running duct tape over them. I never tried even though I do use duct tape instead of the rubber strip on my KLR and in the past on most all my tube type bikes. Maybe some old timer or Fred himself can chime in on the success rate on that. But, yes on the tube and protector on a regular spoked wheel with a tubeless tire to answer that part of the question. I've seen that done lots.

A friend of mine who makes his living working on bikes (35-40 years) says the tubless tire with no tube and silly coned is a bad idea. He says you are risking a high speed sudden lose of air. Not worth it to me although I did meet a guy at Moab one year who had done that with no problems. I wouldn't risk it. Criswell Sent from my iPad

ALFRED- yes, use a tube and strip; I have a set of tubless tires on my spare wheels. You will/might find them slightly more difficult to mount. Additional data: I 'believe' most tubless tires are radials. A friend advise me, via his conversation with a Dunlop rep (and I think I went to a Dunlop site as well) not to use UHD tubes in a radial. The inference was the UHD tubes generate/hold heat and heat is bad; especially for the tube. Unfortunatly, I have no science to back up this claim; shrug. but I believe it to be so and installed a std. wt tube with the Dunlop 607's. Others? yes/no? revmaaatin.

No reason these tires won't work for you. A number of riders have tried the Pirellis, and like them. bear in mind that any tire designed for tubeless use will fit the rim more closely than a tire intended for use with a tube only. As a consequence, you may find it more difficult to break or seat the bead.

Best and safer to wait for Tubliss to develop their high pressure (100-110 psi) tube system with a second valve stem to allow any tire on a KLR to be tubeless. This $100 system works great on smaller endure bike tire sizes and the adventure bike sizes are next. Mark in Nevada.

I got more than 10,000 miles out of Pirelli Scorpions on a KTM 950 good tire I used them with tubes. I'm even more impressed with Heideneau tires that I have on my KTM now over 12,000 miles and they have plenty of tread left [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

You paid very little for LABOR. (they are, a bussiness & have to pay the guy wrencher.) I had to pay $40. last week, it was in the 90's, bike was loaded, and the Kawasaki shop, I got the tire from, was closing in a 1/2 hr. so said they couldn't and the Honda dealer said they did NOT have a tire but would change it.
