I've you've been keeping up with the MotoGP season, then this is not news to you.
Tuesday, I went on the the BBC iPlayer website to catch up on Sunday's race, but I couldn't find it.
It took about 10 seconds of Googling to find out this sad news.
On Sunday, MotoGP sophomore and Honda Gressini rider Marco Simoncelli succumbed to injuries sustained on the second lap of the Sepang GP.
Whatever you think of his tactics on the track, "Sideshow Bob" will be sorely missed in the paddock and by the fans.
It was a bit of freak accident in that it started as as pretty standard low-side. Usually that means bike rider slide off the track into the gravel traps.
However, in this instance, Marco got caught on his bike. The bike righted itself and dragged him across the track where he collided with two other riders still on their bikes.
The other two riders were Colin Edwards on a Yamaha Tech 3 M1 and Valentino Rossi on his Ducati GP11.1.
Needless to say both riders are devastated by this.
The Telegraph and the BBC have some nice articles covering Marco. The Telegraph article has the graphic footage if you're in to the sort of thing as well.

I saw that. His helmet came off during the crash. Never a good thing. I saw that happen to street rider once after hitting a car in the side. Even though the car turned in front of him, the rider was probably doing double the speed limit.
GP is dangerous stuff. So is street riding.

It s a sad day indeed when a rising star is dead before his time. Marco was one of the reasons that made MotoGP interesting. I have not read anywhere but I wonder what Marco s choice in haircuts played in his death. Had his helmet stayed on, he most likely would have survived this accident with a few broken bones. It was an accident so you just never know. I believe in always attaching my chin strap very snuggly because I know if your helmet comes off in a crash, you will most likely suffer brain damage or worse. RIP Sic

I'm not sure the helmet was the issue. From the video, it looks like one of the other riders put a wheel over his neck and that pried the helmet off of his head. I think he was already gone when the helmet came off. Just my opinion. End result is still the same.

If you watched the video, Fred, it was two direct hits that did it, not
his haircut, you can be sure of that. He slid directly into the racing
line and both bikes converged on him as they tried to avoid him.

Yes, I have watched the video and yes he got hit hard. Racers get run over and some walk away. If your helmet comes off, your chances of walking away are greatly reduced. My point was that having a hair style for style s sake isn t necessarily appropriate on a race track. I was wondering if all that hair crammed under his helmet wouldn t allow the helmet to stay snuggly to his head and that may have contributed to it coming off. Marco may have died from being run over but being run over without a helmet is sure disaster. Just wondering.....

The street crash where I saw a riders helmet pop off, his hair was not a factor as he had a shaved head. He hit the car roof with his face and went about half way through the roof surely crumbling the structure of his Shoie full face helmet. But possibly he didn't have it fastened tightly or even at all. Seeing Marcos hair, it possibly had some to do with it coming off. A really hard crash where the actual face bone structure is altered could possibly cause a helmet coming off as the one I witnessed. Guys, if you want to run your bike at speed, don't do it on a rush hour crowded boulevard.
All that said, Mike the Bike Hailwood with all his championship GP wins and at the notorious Isle of Mann with a soup bowl helmet with no face protection, died after retiring from racing in a very ordinary car crash with his daughter where the other driver was at fault.

looking for parts and a ????
I just bought a couple of parts bikes ....
A 84 KLR 600 with a good motor and bad frame and a 89 KLR 650 with a bad motor and good frame.....
I am trying to transplant the 600 into the 650 frame and I'm missing some parts to complete the build.
I needing....
Gas cap and ignition switck w/ keys
rear brake pedal / master cylinder assembly
mirrors
turnsignals
righthand start/ kill switch
windshield
rear inner fender
rear fender with light
headlight
air filter box to carb rubber boot
carb clamps
brake line banjo bolts and washers
guages
kickstand spring
When I change out the doo on the 600, I'm also wanting to swap the stator cover and secondary case to put the electric starter off the 650 on the 600 as it is a kickstart only motor ....
the cases look the same and I'm wondering what is involved and if it will be worth it ....
Thanx,
Mike Huber
