It is a Pinwall special. I got an Jardine RT4 from them. It had two undisclosed holes in it by DPO riveting the hanger on which was the wrong way to mount it; hence DPO...The rivets wore oblong holes in the muffler. Pinwall did not disclose this and did not stand behind it. But, I found a cheap alu welder dude, repacked it and made it work.(quiet module was necessary) Don't expect Pinwall to be accurate or to stand by things. But, the sheer volume Pinwall does keeps the auction prices low for us. Pinwall also has been known to sell bar ends as bank angle sensors. They have listed kickstand switches as seat latches. Beware! But, you can get good deals from them. I suggest not paying over $100 for anything they sell so you cannot get burned to badly. J#3

I have noticed a big scam on Ebay where they are selling headlight "HID bulbs" which are not actually HID type. These sellers are using "HID" as a term to trick people. The bulbs they are selling are incandescent, with tungsten filaments just like the OEM ones they are replacing. The difference is that these "HID bulbs" are filled with Xenon gas and tinted blue to give a whiter light, but they are actually incandescent, not HID. Actual HID lamps (being a lighting engineer I use the term lamp instead of bulb) have no filament and use an arc like a welder for the illumination source. Real HID has many advantages including very high efficiency, which means they use a lot less power for a given lumen output. They are very rugged because there is no filament to break. There are more advantages, I just wanted to point out the scam some people are doing on Ebay. The key thing to look for is a ballast, all genuine HID lighting requires a ballast to strike the arc. Here are two examples of the scam (there are a lot more on Ebay): http://goo.gl/A8Lxl http://goo.gl/MzWAZ Wikipedia article on HID lighting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-intensity_discharge_lamp

What is really bad is that if you buy these fake HID bulbs, they can use 3 times more juice than a real HID setup. If you go real high up on the wattage, your stator cannot keep up(pre08) and your wiring harness/headlight plug can melt. Real HID seems to work great on my 04; though traffic coming the other way at night might not appreciate it. J#3

// Where does one get a real HID lamp :-) setup for the KLR? // New style or old style? I may be able to help. I'm working on a side project where we're developing HID retrofit kits for high-end sports cars where we're developing lamps with the ignitors built into the lamp itself. I should have samples for testing in my '09 KLR soon (since they use standard H7 lamps), but I don't know what the clearances look like on the oldies. -Jeff

free: 2008 klr rear shock with broken preload adjuster

Post by Scott Marlow » Tue Oct 11, 2011 12:53 pm

The rear shock from my 2008 KLR is 'fixed' in the softest #1 position and cannot be adjusted. Probably had 16k miles on it when I replaced it last season. I've been told that it can be rebuilt. If you are interested, it's yours for the cost of shipping (shock is in Seattle). Otherwise, if anyone has suggestions for 'recycling' it, please let me know. -- Scott Marlow MARKETING BY MARLOW RULE YOUR DOMAIN (206) 784-5454 http://marketingbymarlow.com http://marketingbymarlow.com/>
