How does a cockeyed rear brake pad ruin the starter? If you were trying to start in neutral or with clutch pulled in, rear brake pad would have no effect on operation of starter. You are getting juice, not enough; so odds are a connection issue. The rear pads are much easier to get straight if you take off the allens holding the rear caliper to make sure you get the pads correct when R&R rear wheel. You should really try and figure out this easy stuff on your own since your bike is pretty old. Though better safe than sorry. J #3
