09 head light just burned out
Hello all,

Is there a easier way to put in a new Head Light bulb in my 09. I read my Clymer manual and it says to remove both upper and lower fairing. ( I have the Happy trails front guards also )

<><><><><><><> <><><><><><><> Ken, I have almost no experience on the new version KLRs. But I did recently read of a guy that said he changed his H7 headlight bulbs by going in from the bottom. I kind of recall there was a panel with four screws he removed. Sorry I can't be positive about the procedure. I don't remove the lower fairing, just the entire "cowl". Undo the screws on top of the cowl, the allen bolts in the dash and the two down inside between the tank and the cowl. You can then gingerly slide the cowl and headlight assembly forward and tilt it down to change the bulbs.

That's how I do it anyway.

Four 5 mm screws an two Phillips screws and job is done.
Took longer to clean in there. How do people like the 50 dollar PIAA lights?

 Thanks

It only takes a few minutes to pull the fairings and it is something you should learn. It is really easy. Better to do it for the first time at home than on the side of the road in the dark.

Not a bad idea to pull the gas tank once while you are at it too.I had the tank off of mine to dry things out last week at the Roaming rally, the water got real deep, and another 08 had his tank off to find a short after his back wheel slid out from under him. It was the kind of thing that could never be done by someone who hadn't practiced pulling the plastic and tank.

09 head light just burned out
I was on my way for a camping trip on CA Hwy 49 when mine burnt out on an
'08. I was able to shove my hand in front of the radiator and change it. It
wasn't comfortable but it was a ten minute job. Road away with a red arm and
hand from the close quarters. Didn't get the dustcover back on at the time.
Just wanted to get to the camp site.
