(nonklr) but new ride topic
Hey ALL A new (non bike) Topic to start planning for a RIDE. (If I can't ride I want to dream and PLAN for a ride. I hope to (ROUGHLY) take highway 2 from I-75, UP MI. to Washington (yearly+-) this summer. cutting across the top of the U.S.A.. Anyone know of any interesting sights, Good eats, cheap but CLEAN motels, campgrounds, ETC.. Last fall I rode across Canada to Bar Harbor Maine, and had to wing it all the way, stopping at a dingy overpriced motel, just to find out, 10 more miles and it was nonstop campgrounds for the next 50 miles, (30 +?) Or that 1000 islands, a border crossing would have been nice to spend a day. While I DO ENJOY wondering, sometimes it's nice to have some stops "planned" (LOL) when it's a longer trip. On my back roads trip to Denver (Estes park Co., A MUST RIDE) I found some VERY old towns, (A plus) and some campgrounds that wanted as much as a motel 5 miles away, $45. (AND IT WAS LATE FALL END OF SEASON) Thanks Mark (W. Mi.)

It's been a good 35 years since I took a ride across US2, the Montana portion, although a couple of years earlier I went across ND. Highlights from my montana trip include a pretty good Indian museum at Cut Bank, and an overnight stay in Harlem (MT). If I were going back out there today, I'd duck down into the Missouri Breaks country. i am told there is some pretty interesting riding in there, and a lot of big, empty spaces. Of course, US2 takes you right past Glacier Park. a ride through there is one of those must-see things.

Attachments :US 2 across WA State is not particularly scenic, nor is it a stellar motorcycle road. The engineers have worked hard to take all the fun out of the road. When you enter WA on US2 at Newport, pick up WA20. WA20 is one of the most scenic and curvy roads in North America and the road usually emerges around the 4th of July from its winter snow closure in near perfect condition. Rather that the freeze-thaw cycles that grow potholes WA20 slumbers through the winter under a protective blanket of deep, deep snow. I love riding it the day it opens. Riding over four of five mountain passes on a bare and wet road between two 15 foot high vertical walls of snow is a surreal treat. #ygrps-yiv-1792402402 p {margin:0;}It's OK, but limit yourself to two servings per day. More than that could cause indigestion due to high smugness and self-righteousness content.
(Just kidding, all you veggies out there, I don't want to get on ELF's hit-list.)
