Hi All, I was recently going through Tom Grenon's web site, it is a recommended read for all KLR riders. In the gear/mod. section he describes the carb hose re-routing. http://www.members.home.net/adventureds1/ by the way, love the IDontSound2weety......cosmo ________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com

klr mods

ok folks i was inundated with loads of emails everyone giving their version of what mods they had done and what worked for them and what didnt. this was quite an eye opener with some but here is what i have got from everyone as in agreement to what is a good idea and works (ill list the 6 most popular) 1) braided brake lines (98% mentioned installing) 2) front fork springs (most seemed to have installed this) 3) t junction on carb vent (most seem unanomous on this one) 4) disabling the safety switches (about 70% mentioned this especially the side stand) would this be considered a mod? 5) changing the fuses for blade/breakers (a fair amount of debate but seems to work fine for most people) 6) replacing the shift lever (sems most will anyway as the stock is very prone to breaking) <--- mine actually broke while riding home the day i bought the bike. the rest of the mods apart from a few are all personal needs or ride adjustments ie luggage racks lowering links for shorter people tires for differant riding conditions etc i know this dosnt cover everything but being a new klr owner and for all the rest of the newbees here i hope this sums up the most popular and possibly needed upgrades. feel free to chip in to this thread with any desperately needed upgrade i missed remembering i tried to group it as what really needed to be changed and what is personal taste thanks to all who emailed me paul (the lost brit) A16

The UFO is the one Fred sells http://www.angelfire.com/ut/moab/parts_frames.html "UFO Superbike Low Front Fender", it wasn't too hard to put on I pulled the front wheel off and used some longer mounting bolts then took my Dremel and cut off the excess. I mounted the fender over the fork boots without any modification. The Enduro bag has to be unclipped at the front 2 clips to fuel up, not a big deal with the KLR harness, the bag comes off with 4 clips. These clips can be bought online or if you know someone who works at a Wal-Mart or grocery store they are the same ones that go in the shopping carts to hold your kids down. I ordered the harness from wolfman when I got my ExplorerBag and later picked up the Enduro and the 4 female clips to modify that bag. Had a local upholstery shop do it for $5. I have the Wolf Tail http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/03Tail/wolftail.html that's what's in the picture. I also have the Alpha rear http://www.wolfmanluggage.com/03DualSport/AlfaRearBag.html and the duffle now that I have the Corbin it would be a better fit with the Beta rearbag. But the Alpha has worked well on the Corbin. I'm really liking the Corbin dished I'm 5'8" with a 30" inseam, I now can stand flat footed over the bike and when I'm off road I feel more in contol.

Mine did the same thing. Drained the float bowl 2x and a strong dose of Seafoam over night.
It was hard to start at first, then it cleared out. All is good now.
