kenda k761 final mileage report

Good Evening All, I'm sure everyone's seen my informal reviews of the K761.  I just thought I'd report in with the final mileage, as I replaced it with another K761 this morning. I put exactly 9,000 (fairly hard-ridin') miles on the tire.  I could have squeezed out about another thousand or so if I wanted to let it go all the way bald, but with rainy season approaching, I wanted to have a little more tread for water displacement. Overall a highly-recommended "streety" tire. -Jeff Khoury

I liked my Kenda 761s also but I didn't like the Kenda 270s that were more dirt/knobbier; the knobs flew off the rear on the street. A dual sport tire should be able to handle both and the 270s don't. Jeffrey #3

I read a related account that found the 270's to be inadequate as a street tire.  Apparently around 130-135 mph the heavier knobs on a fresh tire are severely stressed and on a hot day some knobs flew off.  The resulting imbalance and vibration reportedly forced a reduction in cruising speed.  While the source was impeachable, it is a report. Off-road capabilities were not mentioned but in my experience, mostly off road, they are a good choice. Wondering? Lee

the K270s are fine if you are 75% plus on the dirt or gravel and don't go over 65 on the fwy/hwy. Jeffrey #3

Hmm. I have averaged about 9500 miles on three successive K270s on my KLR. That included some brisk back road rides and a couple of long, punishing trips. Never lost a knob. But I encourage accounts that are critical of the K270, as they tend to limit demand and price.

They work fine for me if I limit my road speed to about 95 and run about 80% pavement, 20% gravel.

I have the K761s on one '06 KLR after running three sets of MEFOs plus the OEM Dunlops K750s. The other '06 KLR still has the Dunlop K750s but I have a set of MEFOs in the garage ready to install for next year's season. Although the Kenda K761s seem adequate, they make as much noise as the MEFOs, don't grip the hard-road as well as the MEFOs, and aren't as sure-footed as the MEFOs in the sand / dirt / gravel. The K761s are less expensive (50% to 33%) and will probably outlast the MEFOs 6K-7K mileage but they kick out from underneath of you in the more extreme situations. All depends on how much cushion you want. Don R100, A6F

#ygrps-yiv-220938746 p {margin:0;}If you're "extreme", the 761 is probably not your tire.  (I think I mentioned that) However, when I compare them to other tires, I have to ask myself: Are the others 2 or 3 times better?  I think the answer would be a resounding "No." So while the Mefo or the Metzeler or whatever may outperform them in some way, when the price is taken into account, it's really tough to beat them when they're under $100.00 PER SET, DELIVERED.
