braking in a bike. pun intended

Post by transalp 1 » Tue Aug 24, 2010 11:30 pm

The talk about upgrading brakes as a safety measure got me wondering about a practice I have whenever I get a different motorcycle or even change tire brands/styles. If possible, I take the bike out and carefully, purposefully lock up the brakes to experience what it does under such extreme circumstances. Better to have some idea than get completely surprised, I guess.   Skidding a back tire is not so difficult or dramatic.  Locking a front tire? That takes a bit of insanity on asphalt.  I'd rather just let it slip a bit in the sandy dirt drive behind the bike shop and be done with it. Trying it on the Gold Wing was a borderline Jeff Foxworthy joke: "Hey ya'll. Watch this!" Maybe I'm a twisted. But, coming off the brake in an instant and then powering away a little sideways was  fun. Nervous fun. ;) I think I'll keep the dirt road antics limited to the KLR.   eddie
