need help with fuel problem

Post by John Biccum » Sun Aug 22, 2010 1:46 pm

Attachments : Check the vacuum line for fuel.  It should not have any fuel in it.  If there is fuel in the line it is coming through the diaphragm in the petcock.  Failure of this diaphragm will lead to an inadequate supply of fuel to the carb, you will first notice it first during periods of high temps and/or  high fuel demand .

If the diaphragm has failed you can replace it with a the stock part, or convert the petcock to manual operation, or replace the petcock is its entirely with an aftermarket manual petcock.

Hello,

I have been having some problem with my KLR-650 2007 hesitating.  Friday, I took a 400 mile trip in the 100 degree heat.  It did pretty well except a couple of time it completely shut down--just like you turned the gas off.  Once it shut down just like you turned off the key.  I let it set for about a couple of minutes and it was as good as new.

I drained the bowl and found no water.  Put "Heet" in it just to be sure. The vacuum line to the carb seems to be attached and functional.  My hopes are that the problem is as simple as needing to clean or replace the gas cap, but I'm not certain that vacuum in the tank is the problem.  Anyone experienced this problem?
