2008 oil burner
Brad:
My brother has an '08 and it is OK. Uses oil like my '06. This occurs only when you run it a long time at 5,000+ rpm (70 mph+). Probably many other KLR owners have the same experience.
A riding buddy bought an '08 from a dealer and it was a known oil-burner. Can't remember if it was smokey at idle but it did noticeably use oil under normal riding conditions. Part of the deal was that the dealer would pay the labor to disassemble / reassemble to bore it out 0.5mm but the new owner would be on the hook for the piston / rings. He opted for the aftermarket 685cc kit. He seems to be happy with it but there is no going back after you take out 2.0mm on the bore for the 685.
Although I haven't done an extensive internet search, but I would like to use a light-weight piston option for the normal 0.5mm and the 1.0mm over-boring of the KLR cylinder. I have to do that on one of my KLRs.
