Howdy ya'll are,
In reference to the recent tire repair posts, I'd like to throw out an enduro/off-road trick I use. I used to be able to do a 5 minute flat change on my Hercules enduro, but nowadaze I'm more concerned about finishing the ride.
So, instead of carrying tire irons, tubes, patches, glue, etc, I carry a couple heavy duty zip ties. Heavy Duty. About 18 inches long, 3mm thick, about 1/2" wide.
When Murphy visits a flat upon you, front or rear, take your 3 (or 4) HD zip ties and run them through the spokes and through the lugs on your tire. 12, 4, and 7 O'clock positions, and 3, 6, 9, and 12 position if you're running four. Pull tight, snip off the rest, and you will get to where you're going. You might ruin your tire, but that's your choice on how far you run on a flat.
I've finished several enduros this way, but still have to try it on the tarmac. I'm not recommending long distances, but it will get you off the highway or out of bad guy territory until you can conduct proper repairs.
I store them along my swing arm, electrical tape them in 3 places to keep them in place. You can also tape them to the fork sliders for the front wheel.
If you're running knobbed tires, these will work quite well. If running street biased tires, like my Conti Escapes, it won't work as well, but will still keep the tire on the rim and maybe get you home, or to the next repair stop.

nlkr: hot-air paint stripper
Can a hot-air paint stripper be used for removing paint off of metal automotive panels?
Or are they limited to housing interior applications?
Thanks,
Josh
