bike mods for power

Post by Jeff Khoury » Tue Apr 06, 2010 11:38 am

#ygrps-yiv-337547631 p {margin:0;}After the slide drill and one shim, with the muffler mod I can say that my mileage did take a hit.  How big of a hit is largely dependent upon the twitch of my wrist. With the extra torque, my wrist gets itchy.  I get between 43 and 49 MPG in mixed riding depending on ME.  If I cruise at 60-65 MPH I can near 50MPG.  If I up that cruise to 75-80MPH my mileage drops to 44MPG or so.  In town I ride hard and subsequently my mileage suffers, but I like feeling the torque and listening to the beefier exhaust note, so it's worth a few MPG reduction. It does make a noticeable difference though.  My brother remarks every time he rides my bike  how much "snappier" mine is compared to his without some of these mods. -Jeff Khoury

I ve shimmed my slide with 2 tiny washers to go with my de-Tweetied stock muffler. For instance, the $0.22, slide drill and idle carb mixture mods richen the horrendously lean mixture, both at idle and operating speeds.  This reduces combustion chamber temperature and extends the life of your valves and exhaust. The thermo-bob helps maintain a more consistent engine temperature, also extending engine life. Removing clutch and sidestand safeties prevent those switches from letting you down miles from nowhere. Ditto with de-californicating the bike. -Jeff Khoury ----- Original Message ----- From: "beachmike1" beachmike1@...> To: "DSN KLR650" DSN_KLR650@yahoogroups.com> Sent: Tuesday, April 6, 2010 8:33:23 AM GMT -08:00 US/Canada Pacific Subject: [DSN_KLR650] Bike Mods for power           For Years a West Coast HD based custom bike builder whos name I will not use.....because I forget exactly whcih one it was...........(okay I am 51 this stuff happens!) When asked why he did not use modified engines for his customs he said, "If you want a fast V Twin buy a DUcati". I will go for relaiable all day long. I hate it when things break.   If you want a fast single , buy a...KTM, ATK, BMW, or a "Super Motard" . I will ride this thing basically stock until the wheels fall off.
