Guys, I am wearing down my rear and thus shopping some tires. want a DOT which will serve ok off road too. May just go with a Kenda K270 again, but have run across a local who carries Shinko. Can anyone share experience on these?? I forget which specific dual sport model it was, but the picture looks (suspiciously) almost identical to the K270 pic.
The price looks comparable, almost makes me wonder if they are indeed one and the same, just rebranded??
thanks guys and gals,

"shinko" tires - much like a kenda k270 ??
#ygrps-yiv-19497207 p {margin:0;}It's probably the Shinko 244.
My brother runs them on his KLR. They're about 65 bucks A SET from Motorcycle-superstore. They perform like the 270 off-road and corner a little better on the slab due to the larger side knobs.
They're pretty soft, and the only drawback is that they are prone to chunk knobs if you run them low pressure or high-speed on the slab. The max rated speed is 75mph.
If you have a heavy hand on the throttle when riding the street, they develop little tears around the bases of the center knobs (on the rear only). Heat contributes to this, so that's why they have the 75mph limitation.
For instance, I borrowed his tires to ride from LA to San Diego and back (long story) and ran them 80-85MPH for about 4 straight hours. Even at street pressure I chunked one knob on the trip. The tires still ride fine with the one knob missing and others have said that they've chunked a knob and ridden thousands more miles.
IN CONCLUSION: If you don't do a lot of extended freeway speeds, the Shinko 244 is a good value. The rear is 40 bucks and the front is 25. They grip like crazy off road and handle well on road. It's hard not to like them for that price. If you do a lot of high-speed riding like I do, another tire might be in order.

Hi Mike,
You don't need to remove the carb entirely or the tank at all. I've had the same problem on my 2008 and have had to fix this 3 times. The first one took some time, but I now have it down to ;-)
Look at the graphics at http://www.klr650.net/forums/showthread.php?t=44313 if you haven't already. It shows you how to rotate the carb, remove the bowl, and clean the jets. It really helps to be in a brightly lit area so you can see if anything is obstructing the cables/hoses as you rotate.
The jets are screwed in and will not drop out when you remove the bowl, but the float valve might. I remove the bowl with a rag in the other hand underneath.

Compressed air comes in handy if you have it but not required. Find a schematic of the carb before hand. It will make things easier. > > > >
