question about lowering links

Post by Tim Pruitt » Sun Nov 01, 2009 3:31 pm

I'm hoping someone can help me figure something out, or perhaps point me to another spot on the web that I can gather the info I'm looking for. A friend of mine recently bought an '06 KLR and had it over to my place looking over somethings and talking about what he thinks is right and a couple of things that may be a problem for him. While doing that another buddy came by with an '07 he bought new, the first is 2-3 owner I think. Anyway, the '06 bikes seemed to sit lower than the '07 and we finally noticed the front forks were lowered about an inch. Later in thinking this over I got to thinking it didn't feel low in the front and high in the back - oh I should also state here that when my friend bought the bike he was told no modes had been done, it was stone stock. So here is my question: does anyone out there have the length of the stand OEM rear links? Maybe even the length of the more common lowering links would be nice too, but if I had the stock links I could give him the measurement and he could simply compare his to that measurement. Neither of these bikes (new or old) lives here, so I can't just walk to the garage to measure myself or I would. I looked up OEM links on line but so far no lengths. The other think I was wondering just off-hand, is whether the lowering links are longer or shorter? I'm assuming lowering links are longer, am I right or wrong? Thanks in advance! question about lowering links

Post by Steve » Sun Nov 01, 2009 4:19 pm

Hi Tim Just measured the stock links I just removed and they are 6 1/8" long. My bike is wedged in my shed right now but near as I can tell the lowered(?) ones on the bike are longer, between 7 and 7 1/2" for 2" lowering. Hope this helps. Steve A19 Tim Pruitt wrote:

<><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><> Tim, On my 03 the stock links are 5" center to center on the bolts. I think you're correct the lowering links are longer but I have no idea how much longer. You have my sympathy. It has to be hard to be that far away. (I assume you are in the States) We plan on getting a camera for the computer so we can still see her. Hopefully that will pacify us between visits. Your "Thank You" will be passed on. I recently visited the UK where my only daughter & grandson live; leaving to come home was hard. albatross (USAF 70's, n i n o kh c m t con chim s ph c v )
