That is so funny.. my KLR used its "getoffs" up (too many broken wrists in the dirt) and now has a Duantless Enduro sidecar sitting in the garage waiting for a few parts before it becomes "one" with the KLR. My DRZ441, OTOH, has one major getoff left before it will need to find a new home.... or become a dedicated SM. Randy from Burbank [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

klr lost its idle?

Post by Dale Steele » Sat Sep 05, 2009 11:07 pm

My 01 KLR hasn't been getting much riding time this summer (long story) but I have been firing it up some to keep the battery up. Tonight the bike had no idle and would only run with the choke out even when very warmed up. I eventually got it to respond some to the throttle but it won't idle and dies without any throttle. I have to choke it again to get it fired up. Any obvious things I should check out next? Thanks, Dale [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]

The pilot jet is clogged. My earlier posts describe the cleaning procedure, available in the archives of this list. -Jeff Khoury Astatic Solutions, LLC.

Blocked pilot jet. First, drain the float bowl, to rule out condensation, then try Seafoam, then yamaha carb cleaner, and if neither works, strip the carb and clean the jet manually.
