2009 us spec klr650 owner's manual.
Jeff, " guess I wouldn't put much faith in a lot of what that manual says. : )"
Kinda why I bothered with a valve lash inspection at 600 miles. 15,000 was just too long to wait.
Besides, it was easy and I had free use of a m/c shop on a Monday! =)
As mentioned before, at 600 miles I had 1 intake valve right in the middle of the range, 1 exhaust at roughly 75% of the maximum gap
and 1 In/Ex each at less than 50% of the allowable gap. I went down a shim size on the last two and left the others alone.
Waiting to change the oil at 600 miles I could've lived with. But, not waiting another 6,900 miles to do it again on a new engine (or a broken-in one for that matter!)
I went back and rechecked the oil I had leftover yesterday and I told ya'll wrong. I didn't add 2,500ml to the drained engine.
I only added about 2,400ml..... and It still shows no bubble in the sight glass after rundown.
Not KLR related: I also have a Honda GL1800. The 1st oil change for a brand new, took it home from the dealership Gold Wing is at 4,000 miles and then every 8,000 miles after that.
It's got 10W-30 oil in it new, also. Think I waited anywhere near that long? lol
