leaking c/s seal - brent

Hello Brent, The doohickey O-ring on my bike recently started leaking. Does replacement of the O-ring require removing the engine cover, or does it press in from the outside. I loaded the entire cavity with silicone (thinking a proper fix would necessitate my taking off the cover a fourth time: doohickey, broken balance weight, repair of oil leak - I soon found I repaired the wrong part for the oil leak), stopping the leak, however it will be a bit messy next time I feel the need to adjust the balancer chain. Still, I think I'd rather repack the cavity with silicone rather than take off the engine cover again. So, which is it? Thanks in advance, Glenn San Jose, CA
