how about gel seats compared to corbin or russell
anyone tried a gel seat are they any good

IMO the only reason you need aftermarket seat, is that the OEM seats
are too narrow and crown shaped
The gel seat does very little to change that except add some padding
Corbin and Sargent have proved you need very little padding (they are
both harder than stock, just need the right shape and width
Some will say the Gel helps, most will say not

how about gel seats compared to corbin or russell
Great Question. I found on the web an upholstery shop in KC that will recover the stock seat and install a gel pad. Only about $150. Takes about 3 wks. You can also buy the gel pad precut for the do-it-yourself types. I too would be interested in gel pads suggestions.

My '99 came from the PO with a gel seat, a Travelcade, I believe. I find it no more comfortable than your typical stock dual sport seat for my 6'1" and 200 lb. carcass. If I were to upgrade from stock to a different seat for longer distance purposes I'd go with something more flat and firm. I do more local mixed surface riding than extended hours on the pavement so haven't felt the need for a change just yet.

I have the TPI gell seat and it is great. I still get monkey butt, but it takes about 300 smiles or more now (depending on the temp). The bad thing about the seat is when it is hot out the seat gets very hot. I could not sit down for some time after leaving the bike out in 100 + temps one day. If you must leave it out cover the seat.

Before you sell the tall windshield at half price, you might consider cutting off about 5 or 6 inches. That it what I did and I like it better. It was easy to do with a cut-off wheel. I like it better. The reason I want a windshield is mainly to keep bugs off and rain.

My new to me '98 (2d KLR) that I picked up in Dallas TX last May had a
nearly new, tall windshield. Never had ridden behind one, thought it
would be nice--as I had removed the 'OEM' on my 01 4 years before
because it nearly beat me to death.
Fast forward at 70mph.
Yes! The tall windshild (~14inches tall) kept the wind off!!! But oh,
the noise! It sounded like a wind-tunnel roar at anything much over
45mph. The faster, closer to 70+, the noise just got louder and
louder. 250 miles from home, after some 1000 miles of this abuse,
I "rolled over" (=think, lkike a cowering dog, afraid of the beating to
come) from the constant pain induced by the roar--removed it, slid it
into a clean, cotton t-shirt and rode the rest of the way home with it
tucked safely in my Givi top box. It has been sitting on my bench
since the 5th of May. It will be for sale this spring. cough. about
1/2 price of new, etc.
It did not work for me. shrug. works for some, just does not work for
me. The best I have had so far--OEM faring without a windshield.
To be fair to the windshild, it may have been a combination of
windshield and displaced air striking my SyMax helmet (said to be
noiser than some). I did not have another helmet to give that a try,
but I did have a screwdriver and wrench--and as Goldlocks said,
"It was just right" for the problem.
