I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving with their families and/or friends. I wandered into the "face plant" area of ADV today and was astounded at all the broken ankle stories. I have given up on arrogance and decided that I'm just plain lucky to have been riding for over 40 years with no major injuries. Anyway... It seems that one of the boots of choice is made by Sidi and the Discovery Rain Boot looks good. If anyone has had experience with them or has a personal favorite and an analysis why theirs is good (or bad) please speak up. I ride my dual sports in a fair amount of sand and cross creeks and mud holes fairly often so the waterproof or at least water resistant feature is pretty important to me. Just to get the ball rolling: Before I went on a dual sport trip to Mexico, my friend that is more experienced with dirt bikes and dual sport emailed and said "Whatever you do, get some real motocross boots". I had my doubts about that really being necessary, but I thought, "what the hey he knows more than I do". So, I bought some Moose motocross boots. I wore them a few times to try to break them in. They actually broke in very easily. The week in Mexico, I wore them all the time unless I was just going down to a gas station or something. I am really really glad I got them. I had two low speed falls which involved rolling a few feet over rocks, gravel, dirt, possibly a stump or two, and my bike. While I was rolling, my helmeted head was crashing into rocks and my whole body was being pounded. I was thinking: "I'm glad I got these boots". Keep in mind I'm new to dual sport. The concept of waterproof dual-sport boots is over-rated in my opinion, because any boot that can keep water out will also tend to keep it in. The ability to drain can be an advantage. I like waterproof boots for cold-weather road rides, but not necessarily for any ride where I tuck my riding pants into my boots.

Albatross, I too wear the Oxtar Infinity and find it a very good boot. According to old Chinese wisdom you must be an Albatros before you can become a Goeland, this does not mean you can take advantage and defecate ( i.e. shit) all over my bike when I go to the shore!! I love the Sidi On Road Boots. They are metric sized but are wide enough not to squeeze me like dirt bike boots. Especially when I got them used at a swap for $25. They seem to be absolutely waterproof? Very comfortable all day. Not like a Motorcycle boot at all. I have worn them instead of my dirt bike boots off road all day. Wear them around town and campfires comfortably. Baggy leg riding pants or jeans actually go over the boots. Can't polish or clean them, they are made of something strange that is Synthetic Leather?. Mine are getting a little beat up because of the off-roading on my dirt bike, but seem really durable. The bad... The Velcros keep coming off mine, I glued them back on with Shoe Goop, but they still take some maintenance. Almost Every strap has had this problem, some several times. I think the Velcros should be glued and stitched on by a shoe repair guy? I think these are normally pretty expensive. $150-250? I have stood in streams with them! They don't leak. Danner boots. Available at Cabela's. They are the best boots I've ever owned. They don't resemble a motorcycle boot at all, rather they lace up, but have a zipper on the inside so you only have to lace them once. They have thinsulate for insulation, gortex for water proof and breathability. They are light weight yet rugged. My feet never over heat in very warm temperatures and have yet to be cold in them. This past summer I wore them on the Continental Divide Ride and felt completely comfortable all the time.
