You are right I could probably design and build and install some type of device like this for probably < $20.00. Electronic stuff like this is easy to find in a junk electronic store or create your own, look at other things that warm, coffee cup holder would be a start? Probably not enough wattage but at least it's a start, hell you could get a high wattage bulb in a metal holder that clips to the side of the bike, those sob's get HOT! JimDouglas

Does the magnetic engine heater for the KLR work on the same principle as the magnetic tank bag for the IMS tank?

Both work well when properly fastened. With duct tape. The heater is calibrated to liquefy duct tape adhesive slightly below the temperature of french fry oil. Let me know if any other mysteries need solving! (Besides the ones in Carlos Avery)

I'm still looking for someone who can spend some time doing research in the Anoka Co. Sheriff's records.

Judd, OH, You really know how to rain on a guy's parade. there you go again, [publicly] exercising all the rights and privileges of a superior post-graduate education and Masters degree in the obvious. smile. yeah. (I completely missed it-the magnetic application. cough.) Must be my Sho-me heritage.... Seriously, Might work by gluing the magnetic pad on with a product known as RTV used in aviation circles. Needless to say, the engine serface has got to be clean for this to work. Not much of a flat spot there, but that is not to say it won't work. shrug. Kevin, Or you could use a 100w bulb in a bell-shaped shade close to the engine case. I set mine up that way in the winter and just leave it on if there is ANY chance (=10% or better) that you might get out for a ride. I suggest that you get a rough-service bulb to minimize burnt out bulbs. revmaaatin.

Three answers. (1) Run synth oil. It flows cold same as warm. (2) Heat your garage. :-) (Had to say it!) (3) Place a floodlamp close and under the bike. It's a cheap trick up here in the NE to keep fuel oil from gelling. E -- "If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude better than the animating contest of freedom, go home from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or your arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains set lightly upon you,and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen." Samuel Adams, 1776

The floodlamp was my concept also. I am going to go to the electronics store today and see what they have as i believe I could make these for nothing!
