klr650 stolen

Post by st1100john » Wed Aug 06, 2008 6:57 am

Have been a member of this forum for a few years and have gotten good information for my KLR650. Helped me make trips to Alaska and Copper Canyon. The days of riding my KLR650 may be over. Some low life stole the bike from my drive Monday night. It was under cover so they had to know what was there. They by passed three other bikes to get to the KLR, a ST, Goldwing and V-Strom. I live in the general area of Dallas/Ft. Worth, TX. So if any of y'all see or hear about a '03 KLR650 maybe check it out and see if they are the true owners or let me know where the bike is located and I'll do the checking. Thanks for your help. John

klr650 stolen

Can you post maybe the last 4-5 digits of the Frame # and some old pics ? What farklization has been done? Other identifing scars or paint ? '03s had white plastic? The KLR is an odd duck, and easy to spot. The members of this list (how many?) are continuously searching Ebay and craigslist and whatever looking for KLR stuff. Or they might just spot it somewhere. Someone might make a connection.

This info might help recover someone's ride. Insurance, even if you had theft on it, will never replace your "lost child". I couldn't get full replacement value insurance from my ins company when I bought mine , but lots of ins companies offer it now. i feel your pain -charlie

John, Best of luck to you in reclaiming your ride. Mine was stolen a couple years ago, but luckily recovered a few blocks away the next day. However, during those 24 hours my heart was broken. Again, here's to hoping that you'll find it again. rear spring advice/farkle

Doug, thanks for the reply. While your experience tells you that the spring was a good idea, since I am pleased with the handling of the stock setup (with lowering links)and only experience bottoming with 2- up riding, a different spring may be of no advantage. By the way, the use of "farkle" is somewhat misundlerstood. FWIW According to Wikopedia, the definitive source for all web based knowledge; I quote The word Farkle belongs to the vernacular of the North American motorcyclist, and refers to accessories or the act of accessorizing a motorcycle. Farkles may include any accessories but especially those intended to increase the function of a motorcycle -- vs. those intended to glamorize (i.e. if an accessory is chromed, it is probably not a farkle - see Bling.) Examples include items that do not arrive as standard equipment on the motorcycle, such as Radar detectors, GPS systems, heated grips, satellite radios, highway pegs, or top and side cases. [edit] Etymology The Etymology of "Farkle" is murky. It was in use at least by the late nineteen-nineties, circa 1997. The word may be a combination (portmanteau) of "function" and "sparkle." One source attributes the term to a member of the Honda ST1100 user group [1]. Another source claims that farkle was a term originally used for the multiple tail lights that Honda Goldwing riders used in the late 80's and early 90's. They would flash or sparkle when the brakes were applied, thus farkle may be a combination of those two words[citation needed]. Although the term Farkle is most likely attributed to a member of the Honda ST1100 group the Backronym originated from an entry in the Concours Owners Group forum. As stated a Farkle is a: F.ancy A.ccessory R.eally K.ool & L.ikely E.xpensive
