Hi,
working on a 92 KLR and want to make sure everything is right before
taking it out on the road. It has 25,000 miles and the PO did not do
the doohickey upgrade. I downloaded the instructions and placed an
order for the Eagle doohickey and spring only to be told that they are
on back order and don't expect to ship for several weeks. HELP
Is there another source other than Arrowhead?
Does anyone have an extra for sale?
contact me off list

You should still be able to ride the bike prior to replacing the
doohickey. Have you changed the oil and the filter? If your bike
has a magnetic drain plug, it should give you an indication if you
have a broken doohickey. No major chunks of metal equals no problem
at this time. You can go through the cam chain tensioner adjustment
procedure (I use the process outlined on Multi-Surface Motorcycles
website) to make sure the cam chain is as tight as it's going to be.
Ride until you get the new doo.

<><><><><><><><><> <><><><><><><><><> Nathan, Thanks for pointing out the post on the headlight cut out relay. You can get similar results with no relay by connecting the headlight ground to the starter motor positive. When the starter button is pressed the volts to the starter equals the volts through the headlight circuit ground and the headlight goes out. As soon as the starter isn't energized the headlight again finds ground through it. I'm sure Norm Keller posted about that a few times when he was on this list. It's not urgent, despite the impression you may have gained from reading the lists.
